From Code to Community: Why I Built Kernelis Studio and dev46 Girls Tech Academy

My favorite place: teaching young girls to code in Isabela, PR. First place winners took home iPads.
Teaching Young Girls to Code at Fab Lab, Boys and Girls Club, Isabela, Puerto Rico
I never imagined that a girl from the Bronx would move to Puerto Rico and one day be running an AI-powered web design agency, building platforms that connect people to Japanese dream cars, while empowering the next generation of young Latina women in tech. But here I am — and if there's one thing I've learned on this journey, it's that the best time to build the life you want is right now. Whenever that "right now" feels right to you.
Let me take you back to where it all began.
My Journey Into Technology
I didn't grow up in Silicon Valley or come from a family of engineers. My path into technology was driven by curiosity and tinkering. I self taught in hardware — as someone who loved upgrading memory, changing hard drives — but I quickly realized that I love to code, and design without code is like having a canvas without paint.
So I taught myself to code. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and recently Next.js — I dove deep into the tools that would let me bring my visions to life. I didn't just want to design websites; I wanted to build experiences that solved real problems for real people.
As a full-stack web developer and UI/UX designer, I've worked on everything from virtual staging for real estate to e-commerce platforms connecting enthusiasts with Japanese imported cars. But what excites me most isn't just the technology itself — it's what we can do with it.
That's why I founded Kernelis Studio, an AI-powered web design agency. We're not just building websites; we're creating intelligent digital experiences that help businesses grow and communities thrive. Using tools like DeepAgent, Claude Code, Vercel, and modern frameworks, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible in web design.
Empowering the Next Generation: dev46 Girls Tech Academy
But here's the thing about success — it means nothing if you don't bring others along with you.
When I looked around at the tech industry, I saw a glaring problem: not enough young women, especially from Latino communities, had access to the tools and education they needed to build careers in technology. So I did something about it.
I founded dev46 Girls Tech Academy, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching girls ages 8–18 the fundamentals of coding, web design, and technology. Through our programs, we're not just teaching HTML and CSS and AI — we're teaching confidence, creativity, and critical thinking.
Every girl who learns to code is a girl who realizes she can create anything she imagines. She doesn't have to wait for someone else to build the future — she can build it herself.
We focus on underserved communities in Puerto Rico because I know firsthand what it's like to come from a place where opportunities aren't always abundant. But with the right skills and support, anyone can transform their life through technology.
dev46 isn't just an educational platform. It's a movement. It's about showing young women that they belong in tech, that their voices matter, and that they have the power to shape the digital world. Diversity in problem-solving is essential, it lets us see challenges through the eyes of those with real experience, not just hypotheticals.
Why Now Is the Time to Start Your Own Business
Let me be honest with you: starting a business is hard. Building Kernelis Studio while simultaneously developing websites like JDM Direct US (a Japanese car import platform) and [still building] HTML CSS Kids (an educational coding platform for children) has been one of the most challenging things I've ever done.
But it's also been the most rewarding.
1. Technology has democratized entrepreneurship. You don't need millions in venture capital anymore. With tools like AI, no-code platforms (or vibe coding), and cloud services, you can build sophisticated businesses from your laptop. I use DeepAgent, Vercel, Supabase, and APIs to create enterprise-level solutions at a fraction of traditional costs.
2. The world needs what you have to offer. Every problem you've experienced, every gap you've noticed in the market — that's an opportunity. Your unique perspective and experiences are your competitive advantage.
3. Remote work has opened global opportunities. I'm based in Puerto Rico but serve clients worldwide. Geography is no longer a barrier to building a successful business.
4. The cost of waiting is higher than the cost of starting. Every day you wait is another day someone else might solve the problem you're uniquely positioned to address.
But here's the most important reason: living life on your own terms isn't just about financial freedom — it's about alignment. It's about waking up excited to work on something you believe in. It's about creating impact in the way only you can.
Your Turn
I'm not special. I'm just someone who decided to stop waiting for permission and start building differently, a journey that began at the age of 55.
You have skills. You have ideas. You have experiences that matter. The only question is: what are you going to do with them?
Whether you want to build a tech startup, create art, teach others, or solve problems in your community — the tools are at your fingertips. AI has made it easier than ever to turn your vision into reality. The barriers that existed even five years ago are crumbling.
Through Kernelis Studio, I'm helping businesses harness the power of AI-driven web design. Through dev46 Girls Tech Academy, I'm showing young women that they can be the architects of tomorrow's technology. Through my work, I'm proving that you don't need to be from Silicon Valley or have a computer science degree to make an impact.
You just need to start.
So here's my challenge to you: stop waiting for the "perfect time." Stop waiting until you know everything. Stop waiting for someone to give you permission.
Start today. Start small if you need to, but start. Let me build that website. Launch that service. Teach that skill. Create that platform.
The world needs what only you can create.
And if you need help bringing your vision to life? That's what Kernelis Studio is here for. Let's build something incredible together.

Welcome to my journey. Let's start yours!
