There are two sentences we hear in almost every first conversation. One is "I don't know anything about technology." The other is "websites are too expensive."
Behind both of them sits a third question that people are usually too polite to ask out loud: why you?
It is a fair question, and every studio has an answer ready. So this article answers it twice. First in our own words, with something you can check behind each claim. Then in the words of four people who hired us, because they are the ones you should believe.
We are from here
Kernelis Studio is a web design studio in Isabela, Puerto Rico, founded by a woman entrepreneur. We work in Spanish and in English because our clients live in both.
That shapes how we build. A site from us is written in two languages, each with its own pages and its own addresses. The Spanish page is written in Spanish. It is not an English page with a translation.
It also shapes who we write for. The owner we have in mind runs a restaurant in Aguadilla, a food truck in Rincón, a salon in Isabela. If an article is relatable to a small business in Ohio, we're thrilled.
We count before we talk
On September 6, 2026 we pulled every business Google lists as a restaurant within fifteen kilometres of Isabela. Of the 252 still open, 150 had no website link at all. That is 59.5%.
We published the count with its method and its limits. On September 14, News is my Business reported it.
Eleven days after the restaurant count, we did the same for salons and barbershops within the same coordinates: 206 businesses, and the 1,382 most recent reviews we could read. We went in expecting complaints that nobody answers the phone. Of the 856 reviews with writing in them, the number that mention it is zero. And 1,274 of the 1,382 are five stars.
Our guess was wrong, and that article says so.
This is what we mean by counting first. When we tell you something about your market, it is because we went and measured it, and when the measurement disagrees with us, the measurement wins. And we tell you as well.
We name the free fix first
Most of what we found in that restaurant count costs nothing to repair. So the article that came out of it is a set of steps for claiming your Google profile yourself, for free. Only after the steps do we mention that you can hire us to do it for just $99, a one-time charge.
The salon article does the same thing. Its first answer to "do I need a website?" is this: "For many shops, an app like Booksy is enough and we will say so."
We write for owners who will never hire us. If a tool you already have does the job, you will hear that from us before you hear a price.
A person answers for everything
We are firm that AI is an assistant to human creativity. We believe no role, customer service included, should rely solely on AI output. At Kernelis Studio, our mission is to build relationships that are centered on integrity and trust, because your business's growth and ours depend on it.
Your idea sets the limits
We do not build on Wix, WordPress, Shopify or page builders, and we do not start from a template.
A template asks you to shrink your idea until it fits the theme. We begin differently. What you imagine, your business, and how you envision your online presence are what we build around, to fit your customers. You approve a design direction before a line of code is written, and you deal with one person from the first call to the launch.
If you are thinking "but I don't know anything about technology," you do not need to. We wrote about that too. You already use technology all day. Building it is simply a different job, and it is ours with the help of your vision.
Built for everyone who shows up
A site that only works for some of your customers is not finished.
We hold our own site to that. On September 29, 2026 we went through our home page using only a keyboard, the way someone who cannot use a mouse does. Twenty-eight of thirty stops showed clearly where you were on the page. Two fields in our own pricing section did not. They were fixed and live the same day.
We would rather find that ourselves than have a customer find it for us. We would rather find it on your site before your customer does, too.
What happens when you call
The first conversation is thirty minutes and it is free. We mostly listen.
If we are the right fit, we agree a design direction, we build, and we launch. Then we stay. Building your site is not a one-time connection. We help you grow through SEO, GEO and AIEO. Your site is a working part of your business, and we look after it with you.
If you want to know what that costs before you call, we published an honest guide to what a website costs in Puerto Rico.
That is our side of it. Here is theirs.
What the people who hired Kernelis Studio say
Everything above is a studio describing itself, and it should be weighed that way. What follows is not. These are four clients, in their own words.
Anibal is the CEO of First Step Crypto, a financial education platform. He does not describe a website. He describes being understood: "Adelaide understood my ideas and helped me execute them even better. A thousand thanks from the First Step Crypto team. We're thrilled to have our new portal created by the hands of Kernelis Studio."
Jahiem is the founder and CEO of JDM Direct US, which imports Japanese cars to Puerto Rico. His review is the shortest and the most concrete: "Kernelis Studio built our entire e-commerce platform in just four days. We generated $28,000+ in sales within 30 days of launch."
Sofia founded Poised Spaces, which stages properties for sale. She says Kernelis Studio "helped me transform how we present properties in Puerto Rico," and then says how: "Adelaide listened to my vision, implemented the design, and deployed my website in just 3 days with a backend that's flawless."
Elaine is an educator at HTML CSS Kids, and her review is the one a studio would be tempted to leave out. Her project is running behind, and she says so. She also says that while it has been delayed, Adelaide has kept designing parts of it that were never in the original scope. "I don't know what I would do without the patience of Adelaide," she writes. "Her design vision is clear and irreplaceable."
Read the four together and a pattern shows. Two of them give a number of days. One gives a number of dollars. But three of the four reach for the same idea before anything else, in three different words: understood, listened, patience.
None of them describes a product. They describe a person who paid attention.
Kernelis Studio is a small studio in Isabela. It cannot promise to be the biggest name a business could hire, and it does not try to. What its clients say it does is quieter than that. It listens, it builds what was actually asked for, and it is still there when the project gets hard.
That is why.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Kernelis Studio, and who does it work with?
Kernelis Studio is a web design studio in Isabela, Puerto Rico, founded by a woman entrepreneur. It works in Spanish and English with women founders and small businesses on the island, on the US mainland and across Latin America.
Does Kernelis Studio use templates?
No. It does not build on Wix, WordPress, Shopify or page builders. Every site starts from the client's idea, and the client approves a design direction before any code is written.
How long does a build take?
It depends on what is being built. Two clients quoted above report three days and four days from start to launch. A third says her project is running behind schedule. Kernelis Studio would rather publish all three than only the fast ones.
Do I need to understand technology to work with Kernelis Studio?
No. Most clients arrive saying they do not. They already use technology every day to run their business. Building it is a different job, and that part belongs to the studio.
What does the first step cost?
Nothing. The first conversation is a free thirty minute consultation, and it is mostly listening. Clients who would rather read before they call can start with the studio's published guide to what a website costs in Puerto Rico.
